From Vision to Reality: The Journey of Ephemeral

Bringing a film from concept to production is never a straightforward path. For Ephemeral, our upcoming documentary centered on world-renowned ice climber Jeff Mercier, the journey from pre-production to production has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

When we started pre-production months ago, we had a clear vision of what we wanted Ephemeral to be: a story of resilience, adventure, and passion, set against some of the world’s most stunning and treacherous environments. But translating that vision into a concrete plan required countless hours of coordination, collaboration, and hard work.

Pre-Production: Where the Magic Begins

Pre-production is often the most time-consuming phase of filmmaking. It’s where the groundwork for everything is laid. For Ephemeral, this involved aligning our vision with the incredible support of our sponsors, including Rab, La Sportiva, and other partners like HDry, Rocky Talkie, and Icelandia. Their belief in our project was crucial, but it also meant we had to ensure every aspect of the film reflected the authenticity and integrity their brands are known for.

We spent weeks refining the story, scouting locations, and locking in the logistics. Our focus was always on making sure the film would not only resonate with fans of outdoor sports but also inspire a broader audience to connect with the world of ice climbing. This meant digging deep into Jeff Mercier’s life, from his early days in Chamonix to his awe-inspiring climbs around the world.

But like any creative endeavor, the road to production was not without its bumps. Iceland, our primary filming location, posed some unique challenges. The weather is notoriously unpredictable, and while that adds an element of adventure to the story, it also meant we had to prepare for anything. We set up backup plans, including alternative locations, just in case Mother Nature had other ideas during our 10-day shoot.

This film has been a passion project from the start, and it’s deeply personal for me and the entire team at 3Peaks Productions. Ephemeral marks the beginning of what I hope will be a long series of films dedicated to inspiring and educating people about the incredible stories within the outdoor community.

As a filmmaker, this project is a dream come true. It’s a significant step in my own journey as I transition fully into what I truly love—telling stories that move people and make them see the world a little differently. And none of this would be possible without the support of my beautiful partner, who has been with me every step of the way, even through the most challenging moments.

What’s Next

After months of planning, we’re finally ready to hit “record.” Production is just the beginning of the adventure, but I’m already so proud of what we’ve accomplished. Ephemeral will premiere at the Ouray Ice Climbing Festival, followed by a series of exclusive events at Rab and La Sportiva stores, and we have our sights set on showcasing it at prestigious festivals like Banff and Kendall.

I couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you all. This is just the start, and I’m confident Ephemeral will not only captivate audiences but also inspire them to pursue their own passions—whatever they may be.

Stay tuned, as the best is yet to come.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far. Follow along for updates as we bring this story to life.
